Bas Steeman

Bas is a senior editor working across commercial, documentary, corporate and narrative film. Early in his career, he further developed his filmmaking practice in New York, an experience that broadened his understanding of visual storytelling beyond the edit suite.

Over the years, Bas has created and edited a wide range of video content in close collaboration with Sanoma, translating editorial ideas into films for large and varied audiences. Working at the intersection of publishing, brands and moving image sharpened his instinct for pace, clarity and finding the right tone for each story.

As part of the Catch Your Moment team, Bas also edited Papa, ik ben, a documentary directed by Sam Nieuwenhuis that premiered at IFFR in 2025. The film reflects the kind of work Bas is particularly drawn to: character-driven stories in which emotion is allowed to emerge naturally from the material.

He approaches editing with calm precision, looking for the emotional structure hidden inside a film and removing anything that gets in its way. His work rarely calls attention to the edit itself. It is felt in the rhythm, the restraint and the sense that every cut belongs exactly where it is.
