Joe Eshuis

Joe studied Moving Image at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts before building a practice spanning documentary, visual art, theatre, education and branded content.

He approaches filmmaking as a way of entering someone else's environment. Rather than imposing a visual language from the outside, Joe looks for the gestures, spaces and relationships already present. Natural light, handheld movement and intimate interviews give his films a lived-in quality, while his background in fine art keeps him attentive to framing, rhythm and design.

Comfortable taking a project from its first conversation through cinematography, editing, sound and colour, Joe treats the camera less as a piece of technical machinery and more as a tool for shared storytelling.
