Nino Pels

Nino is a Haarlem-based, self-taught photographer working across sport, outdoor, lifestyle and live events. He is drawn to situations with energy in them: bodies in motion, changing weather, concentrated faces and moments that cannot be carefully reconstructed afterwards.

His images favour movement and atmosphere over posed formality. An athlete's understanding of anticipation helps him recognise what is about to happen, not simply what is already taking place. This gives his sports and event work an immediacy that feels close to the action without losing sight of the wider story.

Whether photographing a campaign, a sporting performance or the people surrounding an event, Nino looks for honest frames that retain the physical energy of being there.
